🌟Speedwell🌟 We've been super busy writing our non-chronological reports on Florence Nightingale. The children's knowledge is wonderful and they are so invested in her story. Please ask them what they know - you will be amazed! This has linked in with our History lesson where we have been comparing the lives and careers of Florence and Mary Seacole, we have learned who they are, what they did and why/how they are remembered - ready for our debate on who had the greatest impact to nursing next week! In Maths we have been making and adding equal groups, we learned about money and whether it is best to spend or save it in PSHE, in R&WV we made diva lamps after learning the story of Rama and Sita and why light is important to the Hindu faith. PE was particularly lovely - in dance we responded to beautiful music! We became flickering flames growing and spreading and in target games we focused on hitting a moving target (the children were much better at this than Mrs. Ball was!) We are excited to finish our didgeridoo's next week in Art after designing and painting them today. Have a restful weekend ready for our final week of the half term! Mrs. Ball & Mrs. Clarke

⭐Willow⭐ It's been another great week in Willow class. The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop where they created 'museums'. In Literacy, the class have begun learning about persuasion techniques. In PE, the class have learnt about how to shoot in netball and in how to add movements to their performances in dance.

Well done for another fantastic week Elder! We have been working very hard on finishing our Giacometti sculptures in Art – these are looking fantastic! The children are very excited to bring them home. We have also had a History workshop today where the children were tasked with making their own museums.

This week in Reception, we have been reading ‘The Smeds and The Smoos’. We talked about how everyone is special and unique. We looked at how we are the same and how we are different in the way we look, and in the hobbies and interests we enjoy. The children got very creative and designed their very own aliens and planets. They spent time thinking about the colours, shapes and special features their aliens and planets might have. The children also retold the story of ‘The Smeds and The Smoos’ by thinking about the beginning, middle and end of the story. This week in maths, the children have been learning about ‘odd’ and ‘even’ numbers. They grouped items and counters into pairs to see if there was an ‘odd one out’, helping them discover whether the number was odd or even.

This week in Oak class we have enjoyed completing our sculptures in art, adding to our dance routines in PE and we really liked our History workshop today where we got to create our own mini museums.

This week Snowdrop class have started writing their instructions in literacy, they have created posters on the various biomes after doing research on them, used water colour in the woods, evaluated their Kandinsky inspired bowls, spoken about the impact on humans if they do not eat a certain nutrients and spoken about expenditures at school and at home! It has been a very busy week, have a lovely weekend, it would be great to see on Monday that lots of children have read over the weekend so we can give out some more rainbow readers certificates!

This week in Nursery we learnt about the lifecycle of a frog. We read 'Tadpole to Frog' and used the vocabulary 'frogspawn', 'tadpole', 'froglet' and 'frog'. In Phonics we learnt the phoneme /i/ and in Maths we explored how five can be made. A brilliant week everyone! Miss Allen, Mrs McCarthy and Mrs Fuller

Well done to the Year 3 girls for participating within the championship football tournament, they came second place and were rewarded with silver medals. We were so proud of them, encouraging each other always and showing great sportsmanship to the other teams ! Bayleigh also received an extra medal for her impressive goal keeper skills and Nevaeh received a medal for being player of the whole tournament, great job everyone ! Teeeammmm GROVE !!

This week in Primrose class, we were inspired by our outside area and completed some lovely watercolour paintings. In science we have continued to find out about nutrition and how we can use food packets to find out how healthy the food we are eating is and how to make healthy choices. In PSHE we have been looking at 'What's it worth' The children were shocked to discover that a house cost more than £2000 and was more expensive a weeks trip to Spain!!!

This week, Poppy Class have collaborated to create presentations on different biomes during our Geography lesson; revisited different rolls during P.E and added them to our routines and evaluated our Kandinsky inspired bowls during Art.

🌹Rose 🌹 This week we have started to write our non-chronological reports in Literacy and in Maths we have been finding equal groups and completing repeated addition. In History, we thought about what Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole did and why they are remembered now. We've enjoyed our PE sessions and Computing! One more week to go!

⭐Willow⭐ Another week has gone by so quickly! Willow have been amazing! In Literacy, they have published their biographies. We had a messy but a good one in Art this week, as the class used Modroc on their sculptures. In PE, the children are putting together a dance performance based on stomps and claps while considering how they move.

🌟ACTIVES🌟 Look at our Active's this week! Well done everyone for another amazing week at Grove. Alongside our Actives we congratulated our KS1 panathlon team who finished 2nd in their tournament this week and represented our school beautifully. 🥈 We also said goodbye to Mrs J Woods who has volunteered at our school for a number of years. Another very busy week in Snowdrop, we started our week with making fridge cakes and board games, introducing us to our new literacy unit of instructions. We have also spoken about how instructions need to be precise so the children had to trust one another to lead them across the library, we then finished this lesson with Poppy class doing the cha cha slide (some very serious instructions). We have also been practicing our gymnastics skills further, using the apparatus that we feel most confident with, created our own top trumps using food packaging and explored various colours that may inspire our art within woodlands! This week in Oak class we learnt about why the Vikings came to Britain in History, and acted out some of the reasons; practiced moving away from a defender into space in netball and created dancing involving stomping and clapping in PE; we published our biographies in literacy; began to plan our videos in computing and began adding modrock to our sculptures in art.

This week in Reception, the children have been learning about the solar system! We learned that ‘solar’ means sun, and that all the planets ‘orbit’ around it. Later in the week, the children created fact files about the sun and about Jupiter. In maths we have been using numicon and counters to explore the number bonds to 7and 8. The children also played catch a partner with numicon and used part-part models to show their understanding.

Well done on another great week Rose!🌹 We've started learning about non-chronological reports in Literacy - we are going to be writing one all about Florence Nightingale. In Maths we have been subtracting this week. In RWV, we learnt about why light was important to Hindus and made diva lamps. In Computing we made musical patterns and in Art we learnt about Aboriginal Art and practised some symbols - they were great! Don't forget to bring in your cardboard tubes for next week please! Congratulations to the Key Stage 1 Panathlon team who took part in the ALT event this week. There were 5 events, Grove finished 2nd overall, winning 2 of the events. A fantastic achievement. The children represented Grove beautifully, cheering and supporting each other. Miss Rogers, Mrs Dorling and Mrs Layzell were very proud!

🌟Speedwell🌟 Another super week in Speedwell - we are blown away by the effort everyone is putting into their learning - all striving to be the best they can be and brimming with confidence. We began our new Literacy topic this week - non-chronological reports focusing on Florence Nightingale. We have looked at the features of a non-chronological report and began to think about using conjunctions when writing information about Florence. In Maths we have used place value grids to subtract, the children have shown resilience and skill in using the concrete resources independently to support their learning. We have continued our 'target games' topic this week in outdoor PE and had a go at golf! We considered how to hold the club and the skills needed to hit the ball towards a target. In our indoor PE session we became the Great Fire of London - working as a groups to dance like the flames. Art was a huge success - we painted in an Aboriginal style using cotton buds, the outcomes were very effective! Thanks to Mrs. Bostock for helping us be so successful with these. We have had so many other amazing learning opportunities in Science, R&WV, PE and music - so many wonderful things happening this term! We hope you have a fabulous weekend! Mrs. Ball & Mrs. Clarke

Another week has flown by in the Primrose class. This week we have been finding out about instructional writing. We enjoyed following instructions to make refrigerator cake, and blindfolding our partners and instructing them how to get to different places. We have painted our nature inspired tiles and in Geography we worked as a group to research different biomes. Finally in gymnastics we looked at different jumps and how we could combine these with the balances we looked at last week.

This week, Poppy Class have combined balances and jumps in their P.E lessons; learnt about the importance of instructions during literacy by making fridge cakes and then manoeuvring their blindfolded classmates around the playground; listened to a storyteller who told vivid tales in the pod and painted watercolours outside in Woodlands.

💫Active Artiste💫 Charlie in Year 6 brought in these excellent photos he had taken to share with us all. We were amazed at how fantastic these photos of birds down at Ness Point were! We can't wait to see what Charlie does in the future with these skills- watch out National Geographic! 🗺️

Another busy week in Honeysuckle! In maths we have been adding 2 digit numbers using Base 10. In Literacy, we wrote our Samuel Pepys diaries. In PE, we mastered using golf clubs to aim a ball at a target! In Art, we listened to the story of King Cuthbert and made our own clay slab and in computing we used Chrome Music Lab to create music by drawing shapes. Have a great weekend everyone!
