🌟Speedwell🌟 What a super busy week we've had! In Literacy we finished reading our story 'The Secret of Black Rock' and have begun to plan our narrative. We used scales to measure mass in Maths and used the 4 operations to work out problems involving mass. In Science we continued learning about plants and used our knowledge on our trip to Somerleyton Hall Gardens where we enjoyed walking round the gardens, identifying trees, plants and flowers and had fun navigating the maze! The children were outstanding Active Citizens and represented Grove and Speedwell beautifully. On Tuesday we were incredibly proud again of the children as they took part in sports day. Have a safe and restful weekend. Please remember hats and sun cream in school next week as the sunshine is set to continue. Mrs Ball & Mrs Clarke

Rose Class🌹 Rose Class had a wonderful time at Somerleyton Hall today! It was a lovely, sunny day (perhaps even a little too hot at times!) for exploring the beautiful gardens. The children enjoyed observing the wide variety of plants and completed some fantastic observational drawings inspired by what they saw. Throughout the day, the children took part in tree and bug hunts, and we even completed our own colour hunt around the grounds. In the afternoon, we challenged ourselves to navigate the maze and find our way to the centre—we succeeded! After this sweaty endeavour, we cooled off in the shade, spending some time relaxing and playing noughts and crosses with our friends. A huge thank you to all of our parent helpers who joined us today. We hope you had a lovely time too and enjoyed sharing this experience with the children. 🌳🌻 Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the sunshine! Miss Fayers, Miss Thacker, Miss Rough.

A very busy week in the Primrose class. The children really enjoyed their trip to the beach, and I was very grateful to the children who protected me from the seagulls as I tried to eat my sandwich. We also did some food tasting in D.T for our healthy sandwiches, tuna was not a popular choice. Finally in Music we continued to explore the pentatonic scale.

This week in Reception, we have been learning about South Korea and comparing it to places we already know, including Lowestoft and Antarctica. The children enjoyed finding out new facts about South Korea, such as the food people eat, how they travel and what their homes are like. We spent time talking about similarities and differences between the different places, and the children began to use simple sentences to share their ideas. We also continued our work on plants in the woods. We create Hapa Zome art pieces by printing leaves and flowers onto cloths. In maths, we have been exploring the composition of 10. The children have been using practical resources such as counters, ten frames and number bond trays to find different ways to make 10. They practised saying and sometimes writing number sentences, such as 6 + 4 = 10, and began to use their knowledge to solve simple problems. We also had a fantastic Sports Day this week! The children had lots of fun taking part in a range of activities and really enjoyed being part of a team and showing a bit of healthy competition. It was wonderful to see their smiles and enthusiasm throughout the event!

What a busy week Snowdrop have had! We have looked at how water travels through a stem, looked at a discussion text and arguments for and against this text. We loved the beach trip where we learnt lots about the human and physical features of the beach and really loved the ice-cream! We have also started planning for a podcast that we are going to record and completed some relay races. As it is getting warmer can we please remind you to being in a named hat and sun cream for your child. Have a lovely weekend, we may see some of you at the festival!

What a week in Elder this week! In Literacy, we have been continuing to explore Shakespeare’s Macbeth by reenacting various scenes, the children have wowed us with their drama skills! In DT, we designed our pizzas; thinking carefully about the ingredients, shopping list and even how we are going to present them. In Science, we used our results from last week’s experiment to create a bar graph and analysed the findings. In History we continued learning about the Maya civilisation and in Computing, we continued to explore the micro:bit technology. Well done for all your hard work this week Elder, even in when it was very hot and sticky towards the end! See you next week!

This week in Nursery has been a busy one! We had our Sports Day and everybody did brilliantly. We read 'The Storm Whale' and talked about what whales eat and where they live. In Maths we used our number knowledge to solve problems. In Phonics we recognised and wrote /j/. This week in our woodland session we went on a scavenger hunt. Have a great weekend! 🎉The First Light Festival is this Saturday🎉- we would love it if as many of our school community could come to celebrate with us on the 20th June. This is the dance the children in the dance festival performed too! The Year 5's had a workshop to create some accessories to wear for the parade- they have been helping other children make these in lunchtimes this week- we would love it if you all came along . Arrive at East Point Pavillion from 10.30- parade leaves at 11.15. Everyone is welcome- come and see us with our sign- we are the first school this year! This week, Poppy Class began to create digital recordings for a podcast in Computing; refined their sprinting techniques in P.E; consider the word 'dare' during PHSE and worked really hard on their Geography field trip (and ate ice-cream).

This week in Nursery we read 'Clem and Crab' and spoke about looking after our beaches. We learnt about what a rock pool is and what we might find in one. In Maths we talked about recognising that each number is one more than the one before. In Phonics we practised recognising and writing /l/. This week in Reception, we have been learning about Antarctica and comparing it to Lowestoft. The children learned about what Antarctica is like, talking about how cold it is, the icy environment and the animals that live there such as penguins and seals. They enjoyed talking about the similarities and differences between Antarctica and Lowestoft. In maths, we have been learning about number bonds to 5 and 10. The children used resources such as counters, part-part models and ten frames to explore the various ways to make 5 and 10. They used numicon to practise finding pairs of numbers that when added together make 10.

A fabulous week in Snowdrops, we have written the ending of a short story for a competition, identified the features of a flower and taste tested a variety of carbohydrates. We have also taken part within a football day, thank you Mr Fisher! We drilled holes into wood and recorded two tracks, overlapping and editing them. We hope you have a lovely weekend!

🌹 Rose Class 🌹 We’ve had a great week! In Maths, we’ve been learning about time and in Literacy we’ve started our new narrative unit based on The Secret of Black Rock. In Science, we loved planting our own seeds and bulbs and starting the plant diaries to track their growth. In Spanish we can now count to 5 and name 3 sea creatures! In DT, we explored healthy eating using the Eatwell Plate. We did athletics in Outdoor PE and the highlight of the week was definitely Monster Kickabout Day – the football fun in the hall was amazing!🎉 Well done Rose Class! ⏰🌱🐟🥦⚽🎉

We have had a lovely week in Elder this week! In Science, we continued experimenting with parachutes by changing the material we used. In DT, we researched existing pizzas by looking at the packaging and tasting them. In Cricket, we developed our bowling skills. In Literacy, we have been exploring Shakespeare’s Macbeth. In History, we continued learning about the Maya civilisation. In Computing, we used the micro:bit to create a fortune teller. Well done for all your hard work this week Elder!

🌟Speedwell🌟 A fabulous second week back in Speedwell! We began our new Literacy unit - 'The Secret of Black Rock', we made predictions based on the front cover, generated similes and expanded noun phrases and have inferred character feelings. We are excited to continue reading as we have ended this week on a bit of a cliff hanger! In Maths we have continued our work on time - looking at word problems and timetables. We began an experiment in Science, planting seeds. We will check these each week and keep a diary of the growth. We enjoyed another Yoga and Dance session in PE and learned about a significant local person- Benjamin Britten - in History. In Computing we continued to explore Scratch Jr moving sprites and thinking about programming and sequencing. We also had the best time with staff and students from East Norfolk Sixth Form College for our Monster Kick-about session. We learned lots of new skills and had a lot of fun! The Primrose class have had a very busy first week back. We have had a go at sawing in Woodlands and the children all came back to class with all fingers intact which was a bonus. In Music we were learning about pitch and the pentatonic scale and we had a go at playing the melody to Swing Low Sweet Chariot. In Computing we started to find out about recording audio to create our own podcast and in PE we were learning about how to improve our sprinting skills.

🌟ACTIVES🌟 A big well done to this week's Actives! It's been a wet week here at Grove but the children have come back from half term beautifully. We're super excited for this term with lots of events to celebrate this year and see us into Summer! Please see the newsletter sent out by Mrs Kounnas last term for more information. Mr Rough and Mrs Dorling also took a group of UKS2 pupils to Denes Oval this week for a cricket tournament. The children represented our school beautifully - well done everyone! 🏏 A special well done to Roman who came to see us earlier in the week with his most recent achievement in Karate - superstar! ✨

This week in Reception, we have been learning all about our local area, Lowestoft. The children enjoyed looking at maps, talking about what makes our town special and sharing what they already know. We also went on a walk around the local area, where the children spotted landmarks and took photos of things they recognised. To finish the week, we explored how plants grow by learning about the life cycle of a dandelion. In maths, we have been learning about doubling. The children explored what it means to have “twice as many” using dominoes, dice and practical resources. They practised spotting doubles, saying simple number facts such as “double 2 is 4,” and used frames and counters to help them represent their ideas.

We have had a fabulous first week back in Elder. In Computing, we’ve been exploring the micro:bit and programming them to carry out a task. In Science, we conducted an experiment to see how the surface area of a parachute affects the time it takes to fall to the ground. In DT, we researched some key chefs as part of our topic on seasonality. In Literacy, we have been writing short stories inspired by an image. We have been so proud of the children this week and how they have come back to school for the summer term. Well done everyone, see you next week!

What a lovely first week back in Snowdrop class, we have started our new literacy unit of short stories and have been focusing on sentences with two fronted adverbials. In Science, we have looked at functions of some features of a flowering plant. In DT, we have been evaluating lunch boxes in relation to what makes a balanced diet, in Geography we have looked at the human and physical features of Lowestoft and in PE, we have started athletics, in preparation for our sports day! We have also learnt how to safely use saws in woodlands. What a busy week, have a lovely weekend.

🌟Speedwell🌟 What a fabulous first week back for our Speedwellians! We have written some fabulous persuasive adverts in Literacy, learned to tell the time to 5 minutes in Maths and in Science we have begun our unit on plants and can now name the parts of a flower and explain their purpose. Our indoor PE this half term is dance and we became bees buzzing around a secret garden and then enjoyed a calming yoga session. In DT we tempted our taste buds with some delicious vegetables and we have begun to learn Spanish - fish and sea creatures! Have a wonderful weekend. Mrs Ball and Mrs Clarke

What a wonderful first week back we've all had in Rose! 🌹 We've been writing a persuasive leaflet in Literacy and have continued our learning on time in Maths. We did a dance in PE linking movements, concentrating on counts of 8. In Computing the Year 2's showed the Year 1's how to create a sequence on Scratch Jr. In Science, we labelled the parts of a plant and what they do. We had a very exciting DT lesson this afternoon where we played Guess the Vegetable! We also tasted vegetables and thought about where they come from. Well done everyone - see you all on Monday!

⭐Willow ⭐ Willow have had a fantastic first week back. The children have worked hard on starting their short stories in Literacy. In addition to this, they have got stuck into using micro-bits in Computing. In PE, the class had their first session on Cricket. Keep going with the hard work.

This week in Nursery we welcomed everyone back after our half term holiday. We started our new topic 'On the water'. We read about 'Seaside Holidays Then and Now', talking about the differences. In Phonics we learned the phoneme /f/ and practised writing it. In Maths we looked at the similarities and differences of shapes. In our woods session we talked about how sunflowers grow.
