Spellings for 17.7.15
Due to our moving up day next Friday, there will be no spellings sent home for next Friday! Therefore, our last spellings test is today (10.7.15)
Welcome back to the Summer Term in Speedwell Class! Our topic for this term is Castles and we have lots of exciting learning opportunities planned!
Friday 20th March
The children this morning have had great fun, learning and practising lots of Maths skills, in our Maths through English morning. We listened to some stories and enjoyed different maths activities based on the books.
As we have been so busy with our Maths work, we have not had the chance to carry out our Spelling Tests today. Therefore, we have decided to carry last week's spellings over to next week, so the children have an extra week to learn them. The spelling test will now be Friday 27th March.
This week we have been learning about Louis Braille. We have worked hard on researching him and here are some of the facts we found out about him:
*He was born in 1809 and lived in France.
*He became blind at the age of 3 when he hurt his eye with a sharp tool.
*He developed a method of writing for blind people, using raised dots.
*The braille writing only began to be used 2 years after Louis Braille died.
*He died of tuberculosis in 1852.
What other facts did you learn?
Wednesday 28th January
Today, Steve Wicks, a Police Community Support Officer, came to visit us in Year 2. He told us what his job entails and we had the opportunity to try on some Police hats!

We had a great English lesson today, with the children beginning to learn how to write sentences with subordinate clauses.

*The ice-cream melted because it was a hot day. (Koby)
*Barbara waited for the bell so she could go into school. (Maddie)
*Tina walked her dog after she had a cup of coffee. (Levii)
*Masood ate his dinner so he could go to the park. (Gracie)
*The elephant filled its trunk with water so that he could squirt the water out. (Max)
*John muttered under his breath after the teacher told him off. (Harvey)

* Why do you wear a uniform?
* How do you help people?
* Why does she wear a watch?
* Where do you work?
* Why do you have a walkie-talkie?
* Why do you help people?
We will be finding out the answers to all of our questions in the next couple of weeks.
