New Beginnings

Placeholder for audio player [Will play 'new-beginning-performance-track.mp3']
Here is the current song we are learning. Don't forget that it splits into parts towards the end!

Here are the words for New Beginnings:

Say goodbye to colder days,
The sky begins to clear.
Give a wave to Winter for a year.
Like the clocks we all leap forward,
Hop, skip, jump and play.
Spring is here, it's time for us to say:

Flowers are growing and the birds are singing,
Welcome in this new beginning.
Spring has sprung, and we've begun
To see the gifts that Nature's bringing.

Warm days are coming, all the earth is singing,
Welcome in this new beginning.
Spring is here, so give a cheer
For all the gifts that Nature's bringing.

Underneath the frozen ground
Plants were just asleep.
As the sun shines shoots will start to peep.
The world that seemed so dull and cold
Has come alive once more.
Begin again, it's what the Springtime's for.

Chorus

Warm days, we say, Spring is here. (x4)

(Part 1) Warm days, we say, Spring is here.
Spring has sprung and we've begun
To see the gifts that Nature's bringing.
Warm days we say, Spring is here.
Spring is here so give a cheer
For all the gifts that Nature's bringing. (x2)

(Part 2) Flowers are growing and the birds are singing,
Welcome in this new beginning,
Spring has sprung and we've begun
To see the gifts that Nature's bringing.
Warm days are coming, all the earth is singing,
Welcome in this new beginning.
Spring is here so give a cheer
For all the gifts that Nature's bringing. (x2)

(All) Yeah!

05.12 - Sorry everyone but I've been fiddling with the backing arrangements and am unable to upload vocal parts for it, but I think the best option is that for the last picture perfect, we stick to the same pattern we already know (as per the first time we sing it). We'll just hold the last note for longer. I'll explain what I mean tomorrow but hopefully it'll be simpler. But really well done, you have done so well to learn this song (especially when I keep changing bits!) It's going to sound great!

Harmony (lower part) for Winter Carol

Placeholder for audio player [Will play 'harmony-1.mp3']
Here is the harmony part (the part for those singing the lower part who were on the right side of the room). Apologies it's a rubbish recording, it was the best I could do with limited resources! Please practise ready for next session. It stops before the end because the rest of the song is just repeating what you already know.

Higher version for practise

Placeholder for audio player [Will play 'winter-carol-rehearsal-track-soprano-1.mp3']
This is the version for the higher singers to sing (those who were on the left of the room). Please practise up to Birds a plenty - it gets a bit high at the end. Give it a go, see how it goes! If not, we'll change it to lower notes in the next choir session.

Winter Carol

Placeholder for audio player [Will play 'winter-carol-performance-track.mp3']
For those in the choir, this is the song for you to practise. Remember that we are only practising up to (not including) Birds Aplenty as this is where our version of the song will end.

Everyone should aim to sing the main tune first, and then we shall work on harmonies at a later date.

Happy practising!

Here are the words for Winter Carol:

Icy, sparkly, like jewels on the ground.
Tiny snowflakes lie still all around.
Listen, listen, there’s hardly a sound.
Winter’s here again.

And the frost on the trees could be springtime blossom,
While the stars up above take us somewhere unknown.
There’s not even a ripple on the water today.
It’s a beauty to behold when it gets this cold.

Picture postcard, winter scene,
Not a single patch of green.
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord, for this wonderful time of year.

Snowmen standing, nowhere to go.
Little Robin redbreast he darts to and fro.
Footsteps crunch in that very first snow.
Winter’s here again, winter's here again.

And the frost on the trees could be springtime blossom,
While the stars up above take us somewhere unknown.
There’s not even a ripple on the water today.
It’s a beauty to behold when it gets this cold.

Picture postcard, winter scene,
Not a single patch of green.
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord, for this wonderful time, this time of year.
