The local governing body has a range of duties and powers in school with an overall aim of helping Grove to become an outstanding centre of learning. Its responsibilities include setting targets for pupil achievement, managing finances, monitoring the curriculum, appointing staff, and reviewing staff performance and pay.

We have two committees: personnel, and premises and finance. These all meet once a term. We also hold a full governors meeting every half term.

Our Governors are:

Mr Stephen Jay (Chair)

Mrs Pauleen Marriott

Mrs Mary Hibbard

Mr Steve Clarke

Mrs Tracy Garnier (Vice Chair)

Mrs Kelly Hough (Teacher)

Mrs Amanda Ward ( Headteacher)

Amanda Ward

Amanda Ward is the Headteacher. She joined Grove as a teaching deputy in January 2017 and has been Headteacher since Apil 2017.  She works closely with the Governing Body to ensure that everyone at Grove Primary reaches their full potential.

Stephen Jay

Stephen Jay is the Chair of Governors; he is the chair of the Finance and Premises Committee, also.  Stephen’s term of office will end in 2017.

“I was elected to the Governing Body of Grove in the Autumn of 2014 and then appointed Chair of Governors in March 2016. I am married with two children, Sophie (4) who is in year one and Isaac (1) who hopefully will join Grove when he is older. In my professional life I am a financial adviser working with a global company here in Carlton Colville. I am committed to helping the school and its’ pupils achieve the recognition they deserve.

Pauleen Marriott

Pauleen Marriott is a Trust Governor, appointed by ALT.  Pauleen is the Chair of the Personnel Committee and is also involved in the Performance Management of the Headteacher.  Pauleen’s term of office will end in 2018.

“I became a Governor at Grove Primary in 2007. I have been involved with education all my life having been a Primary School teacher for over thirty three years with different Local Authorities. I believe that education is to develop the "whole" child and not just a tick box exercise.  I live in the local area and hope that Grove will make a difference for local children”.

Mary Hibbard

Mary Hibbard is a Trust Governor, appointed by ALT.  Mary serves on the Personnel committee.  Mary’s term of office will end in 2018.

“I came to Lowestoft in 1961 to become a full-time leader of North Lowestoft Youth Club.  I am also a qualified teacher so when I got married I decided to enter teaching and taught at Northfield and later Roman Hill Primary Schools.  I resigned when the birth of my son was imminent in 1971.  I returned to full-time education when he was 7 and continued in various capacities until retirement. It seemed a natural progression to accept when I was invited to become a Governor at Grove 7 years ago.

“I have been privileged to be in a position to witness the progressive changes that have taken place and to maybe have made a small contribution”.

Tracy Garnier

Tracy Garnier is a Parent Governor and serves on the Finance and Premises Committee.  Tracy’s term of office will end in 2017.

“With two children at Grove, I wanted to be more involved in school life in general and contribute to the schools’ continued upwards progress to ensure high-quality education for all children.   For me, in addition to academic subjects, education should include music, sport, drama, languages, the world around us, etc., thus making our children well-rounded individuals. I have often helped out in Nursery and I regularly assist Years 5 and 6 with French.  In my professional life I am a translator and spent many years in France”.

Kelly Hough

Kelly Hough is a Staff Governor, her term of office is three years, this will end in 2017.

“I joined Grove Primary School in September 2012, as a Year Four Teacher and English Subject Leader. During my time at Grove, I have worked closely with the teaching staff to raise progress and develop the teaching and learning opportunities for the pupils.  In November 2014 I became a teacher Governor. In this role I share ideas with the governors, providing a link between the Governing Body and the staff. I am currently part of the Full Governing Body and attend regular meetings, sharing the good practise that is demonstrated throughout the school”.
