Welcome to Year 6

Our priorities for this year are helping all children to:

  • Reach their potential academically
  • Become independent and responsible learners

Friday 24th March

Congratulations Year 6 on a very successful mock SATs week.  We are very proud of you.

Friday 4th March

Congratulations to Oak class for 100% attendance this week.

Thursday 2nd March

Well done to those of you who got into character today for World Book Day and those who made potatoes to look like characters from books.  Miss Rhodes was very proud of her oompa loompa (even if Mr Baker didn't recognise him!)

Congratulations to Fern class for all bringing in their parent evening slips within 3 days- look out for a special reward tomorrow.

Wednesday 1st March

If you applied for a High School place online you should have received an email today confirming the offer made for September.  If there are any problems please feel free to contact Miss Rhodes or Mr Moore and we can discuss different options with you.

Tuesday 28th February

Letters went home today asking you to sign up for parents evening appointments.  Please return the slip as soon as possible for the best chance of getting an appointment within your preferred time slot.

Thursday 9th February

The children behaved excellently on our trip to Carlton Marshes today and got stuck in with all activities despite the rain.

Tuesday 24th January

Due to the short notice for parents, as letters didn't go out when we hoped, we have postponed the information meeting about SATs to next Wednesday (1st February) at the same time.  Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Tuesday 17th January

We will be holding a SATS information meeting for parents next Wednesday (25th January) at 5:15 pm in Oak where we will be explaining how your child will be assessed at the end of the year and show you example test papers from last year.

Tuesday 12th December

Thank you for all our lovely presents- it is very kind of you all.  We hope you have a happy Christmas,

from the Year 6 team.

5th December

The children have all made pom-poms to sell at our Christmas Fayre.  They started off as robins, but turned into owls!

24th November

In Year 6 we have been using Talk for Writing to learn the structure of a finding tale.  We will use this to write our own versions.

Thursday 17th November

Crucial Crew trip for PSHE tomorrow afternoon- make sure you bring your permission slips in.  Please bring back appointment slips for parent's evening as slots are running out.

Friday 4th November

Letters came home today about an after school screening of Stormbreaker next Friday.  Please be aware we can only let children stay for this if we have your permission.  Thanks.  The secret password for this week is 'accommodation'; write this in your homework diary by Tuesday for a house point to show you regularly check our webpage.

Thursday 20th October

Both classes used the microscopes in Science to examine parts of flowering plants.

Wednesday 19th October

 

The pupils really enjoyed exploring Science at EPA. They encountered an asteroid, learnt about gravity and fired ball bearings across the room! What a fun day!

Tuesday 18th October

 

Year 6 had an amazing day at the Longshop museum in Leiston. The pupils enjoyed becoming immersed in a Victorian factory where they became apprentices for a day.

Thursday 6th October

We will be holding a Year 6 parents drop in session next Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:15 to discuss applying for a High School place, give you more information to help you decide and answer any questions you may have.  If you would like help applying on-line then please bring your phone with you and we'll be happy to help.

Fern had fun today learning how to play the Ukulele.

In our last lesson on electricity we have investigated the differences between parallel and series circuits.

Friday 30th September.

 

Another fantastic week has passed by. Within Topic, I have been really impressed with the children's enthusiasm. They have planned a diary entry that they will write as if they were Dr Barnardo, after he has wandered the streets of the East End and witnessed the sights of Victorian London.

Oak class used the ukuleles today and learnt 3 chords.

Friday 23rd September

Year 6 have been working together in Music learning the song 'Don't stop Believing' include several lovely duets and solo performances.  We will now be learning to play the song on the ukulele and if children have their own ukulele they are welcome to bring them into school.  Music for Oak class is on Fridays.

Monday 19th September

Within Topic the children have been learning about Victorian childhood. They have explored toys from that era and investigated what they imply about the Victorian period.

Thursday 15th September

If you would like your child to attend the Saturday morning session at Sir John Leman High School on Saturday 15th October you can either return the sign up form directly to the High School or send into Grove.

Please sign against the sticker in your child's reading record to confirm you received the letter explaining how to apply for a High School place.

Wednesday 14th September

The Year 6 sports leaders received training on how to support others during lunchtimes from Mr Websdale. The children were all very enthusiastic thinking of  activities to set up whilst considering how to ensure everyone stays safe.

Monday 12th September

Today we sent home a letter detailing how to apply for a place for your child for High School.  If it didn't get to you please let us know and we will send another copy home.  Suffolk are encouraging all parents to apply online, details are on the letter.  If you need help making your application please contact the school office to make an appointment with Mrs Seager, Mrs Hall, Miss Rhodes or Mr Moore- we will all happily help you.  It is VERY important you make your application on time to give you the best chance of securing a place at your first choice.

Thursday 8th September

In Science we have been making the most impressive circuits we can to light a bulb.

Monday 5th September

It was lovely to see the children so enthusiastic to be back and all were working hard from the minute they came in- Well done Year 6.

Year 6 Football Fantasy League

If you have permission from home you can join the Year 6 Grove Primary School league on https://fantasy.premierleague.com/ .  Use your Maths skills to make sure you don't go over budget when managing your own team.  To join the Grove league you need the code 3609582-797906 to play against your class mates.
