This week in Reception, we have been learning about lollipop people and how to stay safe when crossing the road. The children explored the importance of listening to the lollipop person, holding their grown ups hands and remembering to ‘Stop, look and listen’ before crossing. After spending several weeks learning about different jobs, the children thought about what they would like to be when they grow up. Many wanted to be firefighters, police officers and paramedics. We even had some aspiring astronauts and make-up artists! In Maths, we have been exploring length and comparing objects using words such as ‘longer’, ‘shorter’ and ‘than’. We measured the length of our arms using string and then compared them, making sure the string started at the starting point and was kept straight. To end the week, we went into the woods and learned about the importance of trees. The children discovered that trees provide shelter for animals, give us oxygen and even provide food. The children then showed their love for trees by giving them a massive hug!

This week in Nursery we have talked about the sense of smell and read 'Big Smelly Bear'. We have discussed why it is important to wash and clean our teeth. In Maths we have learnt how to create circles and triangles. On Monday we enjoyed a trip to the Pantomime. We are looking forward to seeing you at our performances next week.

Another great week in Snowdrop class, we have started writing our diary entries based on the discovery of Tutankhamun, we have also completed an experiment in science to find out what is in soil. We have also learnt about what is really in the Great pyramid (not as exciting as we thought!!) and completed lots of play rehearsals! Thank you to everyone that came today, I am so unbelievably proud of them all, have a great weekend!

Wow what a busy week in Elder! We have had the saws and hot glue guns out twice! We made our Woodland Animal Sculptures using natural resources from our woods; we are beyond happy with how they turned out! We also created our Anglo Saxon houses in DT which were equally as amazing! I have been so proud of how sensible they’ve been and how they’ve worked together to produce some incredible outcomes! We have also started writing our stories inspired by Beowulf in Literacy, and have been working hard practicing for our Christmas concert next week! Well done Elder, one week to go before the holidays!

⭐Willow⭐ What a busy week! In DT, the children have completed their model Saxon houses. In Literacy, they are started to plan their version of Beowulf. The class have gathered some natural resources to create Woodland sculptures as well. One more week to go!

🌹 Rose Class 🌹 One more week to go! We've been working hard this week starting to finish off some of our units from this half term. In Literacy, we have planned our letters to Father Christmas ready to write next week. In Maths we have made shape patterns and pictures. In Science, we went on a senses hunt and gathered our own data. In History, we considered the changes from the great fire of London. We created our final collages in Woodlands. We have squeezed in some rehearsals for our performance and can't wait for you to see it next week! Enjoy the weekend!

Bedtime stories 🌙📖✨ A big thank you to everyone who attended our annual bed time stories event on Wednesday. We had a fantastic turn out to share and enjoy some wonderful Christmas books and some tasty hot chocolate in the hall too. Reading is so important for our children's development and is a wonderful way to spend quality time together too. It's definitely starting to feel Christmassy here at Grove! ❤️🎅

🌟ACTIVES🌟 A big well done to this week's Active Elves! Another week of super learning at Grove. Keep it up everyone ✨ 🗓️ 12 days of Attendance at Grove also continued with Daisy, Poppy, Speedwell and Elder all achieving 100% attendance today and therefore received posters to hang on their doors in the bid to win a class breakfast at the end of term. The individuals winners in each key stage also got to choose two songs of their choice to play at lunch time today. They are: Maisie in EYFS Harper in KS1 Oliver in LKS2 Oliver in UKS2

🌹Rose 🌹 We’ve had a super week! In Literacy, we have started our new unit where we are working towards writing persuasive letters to Santa. Our elf, Snowy, delivered us a book to help us with Literacy which was exciting! Maths has been making and sorting 3D shapes, considering the vertices, faces and edges. In Computing, we edited photos using filters and drawing tools. We ended the week with elf day so we took the opportunity to make our structures for DT and pretend we were elves in Santa’s workshop! Today, we also had Oak Class read to us in the library for one of our attendance rewards which was wonderful! Have a fab weekend everyone!

This week in Reception we have been learning about Postworkers. We wrote thank you letters to the services that have visited us this term and put them in envelopes for the post box. We talked about other types of deliveries we can get, and then researched types of deliveries on other countries. We found out that some countries have self driving delivery cars, some countries use drones to deliver medicine and some countries use pigeons to send messages. In maths we have been looking at ordering numbers to ten, and using 1:1 counting correspondence. In Phonics we have continued to review the sounds taught this term. Have a lovely weekend everyone! Another wonderful week in Snowdrop and a festive ending to finish it off! We have been acting out how we would feel if we had discovered Tutankhamun's tomb, using some high-level vocabulary, we have also used rainbow grammar to write sentences about this, practicing non-finite clauses. In PE, we have continued football, looking at passing as an attack, in History we have looked at the roles in ancient Egypt and their importance, also looking at the mummification process. To finish the week off, we have had elf day, working hard in the Snowdrop factory! The children really enjoyed the fete, have a lovely weekend!

🌟Speedwell🌟 What a wonderful week! We have had the return of our elf Edgar. We have made our freestanding structures in DT - it was like an elves workshop this morning! In Literacy we have been writing and performing our own poems, our Elf Edgar came with a new book for Literacy too so we are learning all about being persuasive. In Maths we have focused on 3D shapes and their properties - making the shapes using cocktail sticks and marshmallows. We took and edited photos in computing, created sculptures in the style of Walter Mason in Woodland. We have been practicing our Christmas performance and are super excited to get on the stage next week! Have a wonderful weekend, see you next week!

What a busy start to December we have had in Honeysuckle! Elfie is back causing mischief in the classroom! In Literacy this week we have written and performed our own versions of London's burning. In Woodlands we made sculptures and collages inspired by Walter Mason. In Maths, we have focused on naming and describing 3D shapes. In computing, we edited photos and in PE we created our own sequences. Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

This week in Nursery we read 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?' and talked about the sense of sight. In Maths we talked about our daily routines and what we do before school and before we go to bed. In the provision we have explored natural materials, making pictures and patterns. We have also been practising the songs for our Christmas performance.

This week, Poppy Class have used Rainbow Grammar to understand how to add additional information to their writing using non-finite clauses; explored the emotions of Howard Carter when he discovered all the riches in a Pharoah's tomb and continued to rehearse our Christmas performance along with the rest of Y3/4.

Tomorrow sees the start of our 12 days of Christmas attendance reward. All you have to do is come to school to be in for a chance of a reward everyday. The class with the highest attendance each of the days will have a class breakfast on the last day of term!

This week in Reception, we have been learning all about police officers and how they protect our community and keep us safe. The week began with a mystery; our class pets went MISSING! This sparked lots of discussion about why we should never run away, what to do if we ever get lost and who can help us. Thankfully, a very kind police officer found our pets and returned them. We were lucky enough to welcome a real police officer into school. He showed us the equipment he uses to do his job. This included his radio, baton and even pepper spray. The children really enjoyed watching Mr Cook get put in handcuffs! In Maths, we continued exploring 2D shapes like triangles, squares and rectangles. The children investigated the properties of these shapes and even created their own shapes using sticks. To finish the week, we read ‘The Lost Words’ by Robert Macfarlane and talked about the birds we might see in our woods. The children laid on the floor and looked to the sky to see if we could hear or see any birds. Although we did not spot any birds, we tried to attract them by building a huge, cosy nest!

🌟Speedwell🌟 What a wonderful week! We have crammed so much into 5 days, in Literacy we published our narratives about Katie in London ready to send off to HRH King Charles III we then started our new topic - poetry! We have learned the nursery rhyme London's burning and considered how we could perform it. We have been looking at 2D shapes - their names and properties in maths. In Science we learned about our senses - in particular smell and taste. We had a wonderful time testing our knowledge and our senses in a smell and taste lesson- the children were very resilient trying new things. In PE we have continued with gymnastics - showing that we can balance on apparatus and thinking carefully about how we can do this safely. In History we have earned more about the Great Fire of London which has been super exciting and has has us all enthralled! In Woodlands we explored and collected natural resources ready to create our art work inspired by Walter Mason Another fun filled week next week!

🏆A group of children in Year 6 took part in ALT’s 'School’s Against Racism' event today and they were absolutely fantastic! The day started with a workshop around different inspirational stories, followed by the children creating artwork and writing letters to the FA to raise awareness of racism in sport. We then spent the afternoon playing a friendly football tournament – we were so impressed by how hard the children worked as a team, and the growth they displayed throughout the afternoon was phenomenal! They came 4th overall! Well done Team Grove! You did us proud ❤️
